Electrolyte imbalance in the body fluids most often results after vomiting and from diarrhoea due to varying causes , results in fluid and electrolyte loss of mild moderate - severe nature depending on the amount of fluid loss, age of patient, and his preexisting general conditions and the adequacy and type of oral supplementation given. severe situations may even results in fatal outcome especially in infants or very old patients.

In severe conditions where oral supplementation are not possible or adequate due excessive vomiting or diarrhoea . Intravenous IV supplementation has to be resorted . Although in milder cases , oral supplementation by flavoured  ELECTROLYTES SOLUTIONS of standard biochemically researched composition by WHO is the method of choice .

in case  of emergency you don't get the electrolyte solution u can prepare it yourself by mixing pinch of salt and fist full of sugar to a glass full of water.
